680935 GNR J. HALL.  R.F.A.

I haven’t been able to trace John Hall in the Censuses.  We know from the military records that he was born and enlisted in Preston.  His father was William Hall and his mother was Sarah Ann.  He is listed in the Absent Voters List as living at 75 Barlow Street, Preston.  He must have enlisted in 1915 and was initially given service number 2649.  His number is in a list of men from Preston who were initially posted to “B” Battery of 286 Brigade; his number was later changed to 680935, but at some stage he was posted to a different Brigade.  When he was killed he was serving with 73rd Battery of 5th Army Brigade.  He was killed in action on 15 November 1917, having fought at the Second Battle of Passchendaele.
